This focus contains the evaluation of the production of woody biomass in the area between the rows of high quality trees. The biomass-production is realized by cultivation of fast growing tree spiecies, which are harvested after a short time of maximum 10 years.
Advantages and disadvantages concerning the economics and the nutrient situation in comparison with “normal” agricultural land use are investigated. For measuring the nutrient fluxes soil and growth are sampled. Besides the effect on soil fertility, the potential of short rotation sites as carbon sinks are examined.
